Mimi Dillman's Home Page

Hello....My name is Mimi Dillman and I live in Snohomish, WA (that's Washington State, not Western Australia) when I'm not commuting to and from work. I work for an ocean shipping company called Westwood Shipping Lines. Find out more about my work or look at links to other companies involved with ocean transportation.

My main hobbies (besides corresponding with friends via email) are bobbin lacemaking, tatting, coin collecting, and history. I belong to the Lacemakers of Puget Sound and to the International Old Lacers, Inc. ("old" referring to the age of the laces that the original members studied, not the ages of the members!!). I also maintain the site at which we keep the FAQ of the Lacemaker's Mailing List: Lacemaker's Mailing List FAQ - Main Page Information on subscribing to the Lacemaker's Mailing List can be found at this site in case you want to subscribe and join the fun!

I am also a member of Tat_Chat, and I enjoy my membership very much. Recently I made a presentation to another member of Tat_Chat. Please click here to see the story, or here for how to subscribe.

One of my main interests these days is cluny tatting (also known as leaf tatting), but I haven't had much luck finding many patterns that use these beautiful leaves. If you have information about cluny tatting, please see my cluny tatting bibliography and if your patterns or information are not there, please let me know! I'd love to add them to the list (and try them out).

In 1996, I was in a group of 5 tatters who made 5 tatted Round Robin Doilies. Here are pictures and patterns for them all:

And here's another doily belonging to Kara Sheil from an early round robin.

These last images are of a doily from a 1998 round robin with Georgia Seitz (she did the center of this one), Miriam Gidron, Steph Peters, Etha "Maus" Schuette, and me. It was quite an amazing feat on our parts if I do say so myself!

If you like bobbin lace, check out the garter I made for my sister's wedding in October, 1998.

I'm very proud of my husband. He teaches at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, and is currently overseeing his students as they help with a human-powered flight project known as Raven, which aims to set records for the longest human-powered flight (see lots more pictures here).

Here's my little photo album.
