Coalition Appeals National Register Ruling.

Chicago, Monday, August 31, 2000

The Maxwell Street Historic Preservation Coalition has appealed the ruling of Carol Shull, Keeper of the National Register of Historic Places, whose decision announced last Friday declared the proposed Maxwell Street Historic District not eligible for National Register listing. The appeal was made to Katherine Stevenson, Associate Director for Cultural Resource Stewardship and Partnerships at the National Park Service.

Although the appeal discusses many specifics of Shull's ruling, the argument comes down to one simple principle.
Ms. Shull determined that Maxwell Street is too far gone to save. We say Maxwell Street is too important not to save.
