El Quique resides in paradise -- the Canary Islands, in Spain. Educated as a physicist he now designs websites in the Spanish language, and found his way to Shire via the Skeptic Thursday night chats. He adds a European outlook to the chats, tempered by his Latin charm and rational mind. His English is good, but in Spanish he is most elegant. Quique likes the sun, good conversation, Conchy (his beloved) and is a 30-something year old Virtual world traveler.
In case you're wondering, "Quique" is pronounced "KEE-kay", and is a nickname for Enrique; that is: Henry. In Spanish and Portuguese this is quite sensibly spelled as "Kike". When Quique first showed up on #shire as Kike, we asked him about it and it turned out he was unaware of the ethnic slur that this word carries in English. Since he had no intention of offending, he started using the less logically spelled, but also less dangerous nick of Quique. Just goes to show you what odd animals people are, that a harmless nickname in one language is a derogatory slur in another.
