Regulation of the Fragrance Industry

The fragrance industry is basically a self regulated one. FDA regulations covers fragranced personal care products, perfumes, and cosmetics. Since fragrances are protected as "trade secrets" the actual impact of FDA regulation is limited. The CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION regulates household products and other consumer items. The THE US POSTAL SERVICE regulates the mailing of fragrance samples.

Fragrance Industry regulation consists of a group of industry organizations which conducts testing and makes recommendations as to the safe use of fragrance materials.
