This hand colored etching is the work of MARK WHITCOMBE, who is widely know for nautical fantasy in his work. Here the Rust Bucket, looks barely seaworthy, as the boat SOMNAMULIS ventures from Columbia with its cargo. It is number 1 of 100 and is signed and dated ’83 by Mr. Whitcombe. It is mounted in a nice birds eye maple wood frame measuring 11 ½ x 10 1/2 inches overall. The etching is 5 ½ x 4 ½ inches and is in as new condition. ON THE ARTIST: Born in Sydney, Australia in 1942, he has resided in New York since 1953 where he developed his skills for etching and abstract painting. Whitcombe’s limited editions are contained in numerous private collections.
