FreeAgent 2.0 is my personal favorite newsreader software for Windows or OS2 platforms. (note-1) About FreeAgent newsreader
It allows you to retrieve postings from newsgroups to your machine so that you can read them off-line at your leisure and has built in sort, search, tutorial, posting, attachment-decoding, and display-customization features. Now includes yEnc decoding, in addition to traditional uu-decoding and mime64-decoding.
For free. The commercial version, Agent 2.0, has additional features (eg.filtering, spell-checking) and doubles as an excellent email-handler.
Costs $29 to download. Has extensive built-in help, and a separate downloadable user manual (MS-Word or PDF format).
A 30-day trial version is available, so you can try out the full email and news features before you buy.

note-1: For Unix or Linux platforms, I would recommend "Kmail"; it's the closest thing I've seen to Agent.© Copyright 1997-2002 Ruth Shanen
