STANFORD BASEBALL
Sun Devil starter Richy Leon kept the Stanford hitters off balance for 6.1 innings as the Cardinal dropped their first game of the year. Leon walked two and struck out five as he used off-speed pitches to keep the hitters confused until the seventh when Joe Borchard's solo home run got Stanford on the board. Chuck Crumpton replaced Leon and got the save with 2.2 innings of relief. Cardinal starter Brent Hoard went 2.1 innings giving up three runs with the big blow being Andrew Beinbrink's two-run double in the third. Justin Wayne replaced Hoard and pitched admirably only allowing one run, walking one, striking out five in 5.2 innings. The Stanford offense was led by Tony Schrager's three hits.
