STANFORD BASEBALL
Stanford pitching struggled in the early innings but with home runs by Edmund Muth and Jody Gerut the Cardnal managed to defeat Santa Clara 7-5 under sunny skies and 60 degrees at Sunken Diamond. Starter Brent Hoard went 2 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs, 3 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts before yielding to Chad Hutchinson. Hutch got the win with 4 1/3 innings of relief. Freshman Austin Coose made his college debut with one inning of work and then Tony Cogan was called to close out the 8th and then retired the side in the 9th for the save. Gerut finished the day with 2 hits and 2 RBI's. John Gall and Jay Pecci also had two hits.
