Cooperages and Still Makers:
NOTE: You must have a license from the federal government to distill alcohol in the United States. Doing it without a license is a serious crime. Seriously.
-
Independent Stave Company. One of two primary barrel manufacturers supplying the bourbon industry.
-
Blue Grass Cooperage. This is the other one. It is owned by Brown-Forman.
-
Vendome Copper and Brass Works. If you want to make an American Straight Whiskey, this is pretty much the only name you need to know. Their stills and other vessels are everywhere. For information about other still makers, check the "resources" section of the American Distilling Institute site.
-
Mile Hi Distilling. This is a welder in Colorado who makes and sells stills and everything needed to run them on the internet. The website itself is a hoot, especially when "Brandi" is involved. The proprietor writes everything in the first person but nowhere uses his name, which probably is smart, since he also fails to mention that making spirits without a license is illegal.
- Home Distillation of Alcohol, by Tony Ackland. Tony lives in Australia, which is close to New Zealand, that rare enlightened corner of the globe where home distillation of alcohol is legal. It is a big, sprawling site with lots of information. Although he doesn't sell stills, I put this link here because I thought this was where people would look for it. He does provide links to people who sell stills and other, related equipment.

At the moment, his main venture seems to be the Chapeze House, a historic home in the center of Bardstown, Kentucky. He likes to be called "Colonel." I kid, because his self-styled image can be a bit over the top, but he does get it right 99% of the time.
