Once again I'm on the road to some exotic location. This time it's
the South Pacific on board the M/V World Discoverer. We depart March
25th from Los Angeles enroute Santiago, Chile, from there I fly to Rapa
Nui (Easter Island). This is a place I've wanted to see ever since
I saw my first Moai in a National Geographic. Since Easter
Island is more than 1900 km off the Chilean coast, I figured there was
little chance of getting there. After a tour of the great stone heads and
other historical sites we'll board the ship.
The
M/V World Discoverer then departs Easter Island and heads to Pitcairn Island;
the home of the descendants of those who mutinied abroad the H.M.S. Bounty.
With any luck at all I might even get a dive or two in. Here the M/V World
Discoverer sits in Bounty Bay, Pitcairn Island.

One
thing to consider is that the map is not quite to scale. Even as
large as the ship may be, we still are crossing 1900 km of open ocean...
Suddenly the ship doesn't seem quite so big. The trip then continues thru
the Gambier Islands on the way to the Marquesas Islands. In honor
of "Crosby, Stills and Nash" - I'm even going to look for the Southern
Cross while listening to the song.
After
a tour of the major Marquesas Islands the ship will head west towards French
Polynesia. Among the first places that we'll stop is Bora Bora, yes
it REALLY does exist! This beautiful
coral atoll rings an ancient volcano and must be one of the most picturesque
places in the world.
In
Tahiti, we take on a new batch of passengers and head for the Marquesas
Islands again. Enroute we'll stop in two of the Tuamotus Islands
before visiting eight of the Marquesas Islands. The trip finishes
in Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands and we return to Tahiti aboard a
charter flight before returning home...
