Professionally....
I'm the systems librarian in a large New York city law firm.
So I'm the CD-ROM goddess (a name given to me by one of the lawyers, I swear!),
the maintainer of a list of useful web sites, and the caretaker for a herd
of computers and printers.
I also assist with the retrospective conversion of some of our European offices' holdings. (For a bit more about that, check out the definition of tpvtoci, which really deals with the (finally completed!) DC cataloguing project, but it's close enough.)
Schools I've attended....
In 1990, I earned a B.S. from
Marymount College Tarrytown.
I had a double major in French and Computer Science, and a minor in Mathematics.
This includes a semester spent at the Sorbonne, although my command of French has
atrophied from lack of use since then.
After a few years of library clerical work, I went back to school, and received my M.S.L.S. in 1996 from Long Island University's Palmer School of Library and Information Science. Most of my classes were held in New York University's Bobst Library, which has a shifting perspective floor. I do not recommend walking across that floor if your blood sugar is low.
As part of my schooling, I had to work in another library. So I spent summer evenings in 1995 at the reference desk of my local public library, which is part of the Westchester Library System.
In my off-hours....
I enjoy reading. Generally I prefer fiction to nonfiction, although if
it's well-written I can enjoy almost anything.
I also enjoy fiber arts. Mostly counted cross stitch and patchwork, although I haven't done much of either recently. My stash may not be as impressive as some, but it is still enough to keep me busy for a while!
Travelling is also good. I'm not as well-travelled as I would like to be (I think I've seen more of Europe than I have of the United States), but I am working on that....
I spent two weeks in Alaska's Inside Passage in August of 1998. It was great fun - I recommend it to anyone - and I will provide a fuller description (with a scanned photo or two!) when I get the chance. (Yes, yes, I know it's now late 2001, and the photos aren't anywhere to be seen. Sometime. Soon. I hope.)
And that's about it!
