So where is the "house of the water sign"? : Astrology and The Moody Blues' Strange Times |
|
Warning - Astrology was only ever a hobby for me; I am not a professional, and much of this is from memory. Take this all for what it is worth!
There are twelve signs of the Zodiac, and they fall into three groups of four (the qualities) and four groups of three (the elements).
The elements are:
fire - enthusiasm, spirit, "fire"
earth - physical, tangible
air - intellect, thought
water - emotion, intuition
The qualities are:
cardinal - leaders
fixed - organizers
mutable - communicators
These repeat sequentially, giving us:
Aries (the ram) - cardinal fire
Taurus (the bull) - fixed earth
Gemini (the twins) - mutable air
Cancer (the crab) - cardinal water
Leo (the lion) - fixed fire
Virgo (the virgin) - mutable earth
Libra (the scales) - cardinal air
Scorpio (the scorpion, also the eagle) - fixed water
Sagittarius (the archer) - mutable fire
Capricorn (the goat) - cardinal earth
Aquarius (the water bearer) - fixed air
Pisces (the fish) - mutable water
Or, in table form (reverse lookup):
| Cardinal | Fixed | Mutable | |
| Fire | Aries | Leo | Sagittarius |
| Earth | Capricorn | Taurus | Virgo |
| Air | Libra | Aquarius | Gemini |
| Water | Cancer | Scorpio | Pisces |
These give very general personality traits - Aries leads in a very energetic, pep-rally sort of way. Taurus organizes things physically. Gemini communicates with emphasis on thought, and logic. And so on and so forth.
Generally, signs in the same element have an affinity for one another, and signs with the same quality create friction with others of the same group. This is why you'll see those "astrolove" books say something like "If you are a Taurus, you'll likely do best with Virgo and Capricorn, and likely do worst with Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius." Again, these are screaming generalities. And also, friction is not necessarily a bad thing - it can get things moving, if nothing else.
As a prime example, Graeme is an Aries, John is a Cancer, Justin is a Libra, and Ray is a Capricorn (so is Mike Pinder). All cardinal signs. All, according to oversimplified astrology, constantly butting heads - or more accurately, trying to lead in different directions. In this case, though, I think anyone on Lost-Chords will agree that the combination works beautifully!
