1. One Major Family All shells from one of the following families: Muricidae, Conidae, Pectinidae, Cypraeidae or Volutidae.

2. One Minor family All shells from any family not mentioned in Category #1.

3. One Genus  All shells in the same genus, e.g., Morum, Strombus, Nautilus,  etc.

4. One Species  All shells of one species showing variation in color, form, growth, etc.

5. One Locality  All shells from one limited area, e.g., one bay, one island, one beach, etc.

6. One Geographical Area All shells from one geographical area, e.g., Florida , Bahamas , Mediteranean, etc.

7. Self Collected Single Specimen  One outstanding self-collected  shell displayed by itself.  
May be displayed in an unusual manner. (See self-collected rule #8)

8. Single Specimen - Any Manner One outstanding shell displayed by itself and obtained in any manner. 
May be displayed in an unusual manner.

9. General Collection  An exhibit of miscellaneous shells usually, but not necessarily worldwide.

10. Educational Exhibit  Exhibit of shells, the prime object of which is to teach.  Aquariums with live mollusks, 
habitat groups, shells cut to show structure, animal models, etc.  Exhibit must include information over and above data labeling 
in order to qualify for this category.

11. Self Collected  All shells must be collected in their natural habitat by the exhibitor (See Rule No. 8).

12. Fossil Shells  Exhibit of fossil shells that may be from one location, one family, one time period, etc.

13 Junior Exhibit  All shells in this exhibit must be collected, arranged and labled by the exhibitor.

A.  Exhibit by student through 12 years of age.

B.  Exhibit by student 13 through 17 years of age.

14. Land and/or Fresh Water Shells

15. Specialized  A display of unusual specimens such as albinos, freaks, miniatures, etc.

16. Beginning Collector    First Time Scientific Exhibitor in a Shell Show.

17. Sea Life Exhibit  An exhibit of matter associated with shells i.e., sea life other than mollusks: 
Can be sea beans, coral, starfish, crabs, etc.

18. Six Foot Shorty  An exhibit of any category 6 feet or less.

19.  Shoreline   Anything collected intertidally (including non-molluscan)!  
This category is specially for the beachcomber.

20. Non-Competitive  Interesting and attractive exhibits not entered in competition and not qualifying in competitive classes are always encouraged and welcome.  Dealers/Commercial/Professionals are encouraged to exhibit in this category.   We would love to see some of the things you are hiding from us!

21.  Masters Award  An exhibit which has already received a major “broad category” award.  It should retain its original winning format and content and not be changed by more than 10%.  You can receive the Master’s Award only once on this exhibit.  EXHIBITS IN THIS CATEGORY ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY OTHER AWARD AT THE SHOW.   Be sure to note changes in the guidelines for this Award under Awards. as of  January 25, 2008 .

22.  The Ultimate Arts and Craft Award.  An exhibit which has already received a major award at our Shell Festival or another Shell Show.  EXHIBITS IN THIS CATEGORY ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY OTHER AWARD AT THE SHOW. MUST exhibit the award with your exhibit.  This entry can be the winning exhibit from any category of Arts and Crafts.

23.  Shell Arts and Crafts  All entries must be the work of the exhibitor.

            A.            Jewelry and personal accessories such as purses, belts, hairclips, etc.

                B.            Pictures constructed of shells, sea life and/or natural materials.

                C.            Pictures (Paintings, sketches of mollusks, or sea life)

                D.            Shell Mirrors

                E.             Floral Arrangements over 6 inches tall.

                F.             Floral Arrangements under 6 inches tall.

                G.            Decorative Arrangements/Centerpieces, Wreaths,etc.

                H.            Holiday Motif - any holiday, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

                I .             Shell trays and boxes

                J.            Sailor’s Valentines - Double with heart on one side and flower on the other!

                K.            Sailor’s Valentines - Single

                L.           Novelties (Animals, caricatures, dolls, etc.)                   

                M.            Needlework: Embroidery, crewel, cross stitch, quilting, etc.

                N.            Miscellaneous:  Not covered by any of the above.

                O.            Photography: Prints of mollusks and/or sea life taken by the exhibitor.  Framed area limited to 2 feet by 4 feet.

                P.            Junior Exhibit (Any Category)

                                1.  Exhibit by student through 12 years of age

                                2.  Exhibit by student through 17 years of age

24. Shell Arts and Crafts - Collectibles and Antiques

Not the work of the exhibitor, but must be the property of the exhibitor

            A.            Jewelry and personal accessories

                B.            Pictures made of shells and/or sea life.

                C.            Pictures and Drawings of shells or sea life

                D.             Ceramics/China

                E            Miscellaneous
