POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Posted November 1, 1998 LIBRARY SYSTEMS COORDINATOR APPOINTMENT: Full-time position; will include some evening and/or weekend hours. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership in enhancing library services through the creative use of existing and emerging technologies. Coordinates the overall planning/management of library information systems designed to meet present and future teaching, study, and research needs. Serves as systems administrator for the library's III automated integrated system, desktop applications, and local network. Hires, trains and supervises system technician and student staff. Coordinates/assists in technical training of library staff. Coordinates/facilitates the selection of hardware and software; coordinates library applications of the campus network with Information Systems staff and University faculty; provides reference services; and participates in the library's instructional services program. Serves on committees and task forces. Maintains information systems documentation; prepares budget proposals and management reports. Reports to the Library Director. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited MLS or equivalent; experience with and/or coursework in the application of information technology to library services; a working knowledge of networking including NT LAN; OCLC and other MARC-based databases; online searching; CD-ROM technology; desktop applications and other microcomputer-based library applications. A working knowledge of print and electronic reference sources; experience in computer training; excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and communication skills; the ability to work independently and as a member of a team; and a strong service orientation. The capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing organizational and technological environment. An understanding of and commitment to the educational objectives of a liberal arts education also required. Professional experience in the maintenance of an integrated library automation system; experience in an academic library; and experience and/or familiarity with computer programming, multimedia, and Macintosh hardware and software preferred.
