Hiragana for Lesson 4

pronunced /eh/, similar to the Spanish and Italian "e." It is the fourth kana in the hiragana. あいうえお a-i-u-e-o is the first row in the syllabary (alphabet). This row is called the あ行 a-gyou.

comes from the character 衣 e or koromo, clothing.

Words to practice for today:

え (家) home

(絵本) ehon, picture book

いいno

(枝) eda, branch

え is pretty simple to pronounce.

Be careful with いえ and いいえ, though. The "i" in いいえ is twice as long as in いえ.
