Vocabulary notes

たぬき inhabit Japan and Eastern Asia. The たぬき is a member of the dog family and looks a bit like a raccoon. The たぬき is a common figure in Japanese folklore. You can also see ceramic figures of たぬき outside or inside many shops.

While is used for the animal dog, is used for the zodiac sign. Both are pronounced いぬ, however.

Don't be suprised if you try to use and a Japanese person comes back with shiruku.
