Hiragana for Lesson 16

is pronounced /shi/. It is the 2番目 ni-banme kana in the さ行, the 3行目 ぎょ san-gyoume in the hiragana.

し comes from the 漢字 kanji 芝.

Words to practice for today:

し(石) a rock し(お菓子) sweets, goodies
じ(火事) a fire (四季) the four seasons
し(腰) waist し foot (feet), leg(s)
delicious じ(味) flavor, taste

Adding a to し makes じ ji.

石 refers to rocks; refers to a rock formation.

火事 is a building that is on fire.

四季 is also the name of Vivaldi's famous song.

Technically, the character 足 is used for foot (feet) and 脚 for leg(s).

 

Remember to keep the 書き順 and 方向 ほうこう houkou!
