Hiragana for Lesson 3
![]() |
う pronunced /oo/ as in
"boot" is the third kana in the Japanese syllabary,
the hiragana. う comes from the character 宇 u. Words to practice for today: うし ushi, cow (either male or female) うに uni, sea urchin (a delicacy at sushi-ya) |
Along with つ tsu and ん n', う is a difficult sound to make. It is closer to the French u than English. The best way to practice is with a native Japanese person, using words that begin with う.
Remember to keep the 書き順 (stroke order) and direction!
書き順と方向をしっかりと守ってください。
