Sherry Stringfield to Return to "ER"
One of "ER's" original castmembers is coming home. Sherry Stringfield
will ressurect her character, Dr. Susan Lewis, this fall. Stringfield
left the show after three seasons, moving back to New York to live a more
normal life. She's now married, is a mother, and is now ready to go back
to the grind of a weekly television series.
Big Brother Redux
CBS is getting set to premiere the all-new, revamped, "Big Brother
2." As we reported earlier this year, several changes are planned
for the show, including having the castmembers vote each other out rather
than having the audience vote. Although the producers are planning some
suprises for premiere night, some more announced changes are a remodeled
house, 12 roommates instead of 10, 3 bedrooms instead of 2 (perhaps to
encourage co-ed bunking), and more cameras.
The first season of "Big Brother," while getting respectable
ratings, was panned critically, mainly due to the fact that most of the
castmembers were considered dull. New executive producer Arnold Shapiro
says that they have carefully selected a cast of competitive, opinionated,
and quirky characters. The producers seem to be hoping for more conflict,
and perhaps a more sexually-charged atmosphere, with "blur machines"
at the ready.
What's in a Name?
CBS is changing the name of its new fall series "American Wreck."
The series, starring Daniel Stern, takes place in a recreation center,
hence the name. The network has now given the show the working title of
"Danny," which the network feels is more positive title that
better communicates the focus of the show.
Likewise, the WB is expected to change the name of its new series, "Maybe
I'm Adopted," after the title drew some flack from adopation activists.
Reality Boosts NBC
NBC's three new reality programs are helping the network keep its competitve
edge in the ratings. Though "Weakest Link," "Fear Factor,"
and "Spy TV" have all been critically panned, viewers have flocked
to the new shows. Last week's debut of "Spy TV" won its timeslot,
and was the number one show in the coveted 18-49 demographic. "Weakest
Link" and "Fear Factor" have also done extremely well in
that demographic.
ABC Grabs New Reality Series
ABC has picked up two new reality series. "Spy Wars" will follow
two teams of four contestants who will compete in Mission:Impossible-style
challenges. The show will start production in September.
The other reality show, "Single Girls," will follow a group
of young single women who will live in a New York apartment and embark
on their quests to find "Mr. Right." The show, described as
a reality version of "Sex and the City," will be produced by
Stone Stanley Entertainment, producers of "The Mole."
Survivor 4 Casting Call
Even before production on "Survivor 3" starts, CBS is accepting
applications for "Survivor 4," set to air in March 2002. Apply
at cbs.com, deadline is July 27.
