Good Advice:

· I’ve never seen a Koi that died of starvation (when in doubt, don’t feed).

· I’ve never seen a Koi that died from under-stocking a pond.

· I’ve never seen a Koi that died because the filter was too big.

· I’ve never seen a Koi die because the pond keeper tested the water too much.

· I’ve never seen a Koi die because the pond was too clean.

· I’ve never meet a pond keeper that could accurately measure water quality parameters over the phone, by looking at the water, by tasting the water, by smelling the water, by sticking their trick knee in the water, or by any means other than the appropriate test kit.

· Be prepared: have dechlor, fresh test kits, and salt on hand at all times.

· I’ve never gotten good advice from a pet store.

· Visit as many ponds as possible.

· Join your local Koi club.  Join MAKC (its worth being a member just for their magazine).

· Learn from the mistakes of others. There’s too many stupid ways to kill Koi - don’t waste your time making old mistakes. Learn some new mistakes and share them with the rest of us.
