Jeremy Enigk you might know as the former lead singer
for now defunct Sunny Day Real Estate. If you are not framiliar with
SDRE than you should know that the bassist and drummer of Foo Fighters both
hail from SDRE. Preceeding Enigk's departure he became an outspoken Christian having
given his life to Christ. Since leaving Enigk has cut one of the most creative beautiful imaginative recording in the broad
spectrum of alternative music period.
Leaving the emo-core noise pop of Sunny Day Real Estate behind Enigk shows that he has been
spending time with his acoustic guitar. The whole album is done in strings
even featuring a 20 piece orchestra. Enigk shows just how talented he is by playing
the harp, harpsichord, drums, guitar, bass, piano all on his own album.
On the opening cut "Abegail Anne" now Foo Fighter William Goldsmith
makes an appearance on the drums. The song builds slowly on opening guitar chords with Enigk singing in his usual
whining wail of a voice. But by songs end the song has built into a
beautiful flowing melody as Enigk's voice cracks and cringes, whispers and yelps.
It is an emotional roller coaster of sorts, as is this album. It flows with Beatlesque harmonies as Enigk sings his
beautiful, poetic lyrics. This is a fantastic beggining for Enigk in his solo career and I strongly suggest you check it out.
