"Then I saw in relation to the
"daily"
that the word "sacrifice" was supplied by
mans wisdom, and does not belong to the text, and that the Lord gave the
correct view of it to those who gave the judgment hour cry [1831-1844]. When union
existed, before 1844 nearly all were united on the correct view of the
"daily," but in the confusion since 1844 other views have been embraced and
darkness and confusion have followed." Early Writings p. 74,75
VI. The "Correct View" Defined by L. E. Frooms
Historical Chart.
The views of those who gave "the judgment hour cry" before
1844, in regard to the "daily," are revealed by L. E. Froom in his summary
charts in The Prophetic Faith of our Fathers Vol. 4, p. 847. He has abbreviated
their views to one word, "Paganism." That word, "Paganism,"
referred to "Pagan Rome," when the emperor gave his "power,
and his seat, and great authority" to Papal Rome. That action is stated in
Rev. 13:2. For the first time, they set aside all human speculation. When they followed
the hermeneutic principle of permitting the Bible to be its own expositor, they permitted
Rev. 13:2 to interpret Daniel 8:11-13. This was the "correct view" in
which they saw the "daily" of Daniel to refer to the transfer of the
"scepter of power" from one empire to the next. They understood that this
transfer of power was the very action which established the Papacy as a great empire over
the "old world" from A.D. 538 to 1798.
One of those pioneers who had this "correct view"
of the "daily" of the book of Daniel, explained that:
"Daniel wrote the history of the world from the standpoint of
nations [empires]
he deals primarily with nations [empires]." The
Story of the Seer of Patmos. p. 289. 1905. Nashville, Tn.
Why did those who gave the judgment hour cry focus on the political
rise and fall of empires?
VII. The Historical and Political Background of Those Who "Gave
the Judgment Hour Cry."
Those who gave the "judgment hour cry" from 1831 to 1844 were
part of the 1800 Awakening in Europe and America. Just two years before 1800, they saw the
capture and imprisonment of the Pope of Rome in A.D. 1798, by Napoleon of France, which
was the "earth shaking event" that gripped the attention of all Protestantism. |
