In Daniel 12, this word, "end" refers to the utmost end of time, the brink or uttermost edge of time. Under no circumstances should it be used to refer to events in the past, or to the medieval era.

  1. An Inspired Prophet Explained that the Phrase, "time of the end," as Used in Daniel 12, Actually Meant "the end of time."

"Twice Daniel enquired, How long shall it be to the end of time? And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? [quoting from Dan. 12:8-13] The book of Daniel is unsealed in the revelation to John, and carries us forward to the last scenes of this earth’s history." Testimonies to Ministers p. 114, 115. E.G. White.

  1. The Three Timelines of Daniel 12 Were not to be Unsealed Until the Endtime.

The three timelines of Daniel 12 are found in verses 7-12. In between these verses there is a statement that says that the meaning of these three timelines, and the information therein, were to be "sealed up," not to be unsealed until the endtime. "And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed, till the time of the end [endtime]. Dan. 12:9. Notice, that the "book" is sealed in Dan. 12:4 until the time of the end; but in Dan. 12:9, it is the "words" of the timelines which are sealed!

The book of Daniel is classified as "prophecy." Prophecy is simply history written before it happens. Prophecy is made up of historical events which occurred in the past, are happening in the present, and will happen in the future. The history of this world extends until the Second Coming of Jesus. The book of Daniel, with its four vision-outlines, would be incomplete if their reiteration of events ended in 1844, more than a century before the Second Coming. Not only does Daniel 11:40-45 cover events extending through the final crisis, but also, the last chapter, (Daniel 12:1-4, and its Epilogue of three timelines of Dan. 12:5-13), refers to events involving the last generation, in the future, at the very end of the final conflict.
