Weight Saving Tips

The following are the weights of different components that could be removed from the BMW E46 M3 for weight savings.

A/C parts from under hood - 30 lbs

Front Seats - 56.0 lbs each, or 112 lbs both

Carpeting both section - 24.0 lbs

Rear Fold Down Seat - 35.5 lbs (both sections)

Rear Fold Down Side Cushions - 4.0 lbs  (both)

Rear Seat Cushion - 12.5 lbs

Sound Insulation from under rear seat - 10.0 lbs

Rear Lap Belts, Hardware and sound insulation from behind Rear Fold Down Side Cushions - 5.0 lbs

Rear Shoulder Belt Hardware and sound insulation from rear package shelf - 5.0 lbs

Rear Side Panels 6.5 lbs each or 13.0 lbs both

Passenger Airbag - 6.0 lbs
Side Airbag - 1.5 lbs or 3.0 lbs for both
Side Head Airbag - 3 lbs or 6.0 lbs for both

Headliner, trim pieces, and lots of hardware - 38.0 lbs

Stereo Head Unit 2.0 lbs
Speakers and HK amp - 15.0 lbs
Subwoofer - 7.0 lbs

Tools and Tray, Rear Deck Lid Panel,
Sound Insulation from rear trunk panels - 8.0 lbs

Rear Floor and Reversible Cover - 8.0 lbs

Stuck on sound insulation - 11.00 lbs.

Replace Factory Wheels with
Light Weight Wheels - 30 lbs difference/savings

Engine Clutch Fan and Sheilds - 5.0 lbs

Battery - 46 lbs

SUBTOTAL for Item REMOVED: 436 lbs

The following are the weights of different components that could be installed into a BMW E46 M3. so the following weights need to be added back in.

Recaro Pole Position Seat - 15.5 lbs

Seat Side Mounts and Rails - 20 lbs

Six Point Harness - 6 lbs

Light weight battery and mount 14 lbs

SUBTOTAL for Items ADDED Back In: 55.5 lbs

WEIGHT SAVINGS TOTAL: 380.5 lbs
