Parts and Tools Required
Momo Steering Wheel
Momo Hub Adapter, E36 style
Horn Spring Contact
T30 Torx bit
5/8" socket and driver
Phillips screwdriver
Wire splice in connector
Air Bag Removal
- Turn stock steering wheel 90 degrees left or right. Turning key to
off and removing key, make sure steering wheel is locked.
- Using torx bit, loosen bolts holding air bag on stock steering
wheel, do not fully loosen bolts to cause air bag to fall out of steering
wheel. Caution must be taken to prevent air bag from discharging.
- Turn steering wheel back to center. After turning key to off
and removing key, make sure steering wheel is locked dead center.
- Disconnect (-) negative lead of the battery in the rear hatch.
- With battery disconnected, continue unscrewing torx bolts until
air bag comes free from steering wheel. Disconnect wires to air bag. Set
air bag a side.
Steering Wheel Removal
- Remove lower half of steering column cover by removing phillips screw
and then pull straight down on cover.
- Using 5/8" socket, unscrew bolt in the center of the steering
wheel. Caution needs to be taken not to cause damage to steering wheel lock.
Apply opposite force to steering wheel as bolt is loosen. Remove bolt and
set aside.
- Steering wheel pulls straight off. Caution wires will still
be connected to steering wheel.
- Disconnect the wires to the steering wheel under the steering
column. Set steering wheel aside.
Installation of Horn Spring Contact (Optional)
- Install Horn Spring Contact into the round opening located at the five
o'clock position, down and to the right of the center of the steering shaft.
Note: Horn Spring Contact is "keyed".
- When the steering wheel wires were disconnected, the closest
connector to the driver will be spliced to the Horn Spring Contact. This
connector has two wires, a brown with red strip and a solid brown one. Using
a "wire splice in connector" splice the Horn Spring Contact to the brown
with red strip wire.
- Reinstall lower half of steering column cover.
Installation of Hub and steering Wheel
- Assemble steering wheel onto hub using manufactures supplied instructions.
Note: Some steering wheels have horn buttons and trim rings that require
the hub to be installed onto steering shaft first.
- Place hub and wheel on to steering shaft. Be careful not to
damage splines. On the back of the hub is a piece used to turn off the turn
signal, note this position when installing the hub.
- Check alignment of nub and/or steering wheel, straight and level.
- Reinstall steering wheel bolt and tighten.
- Connect horn button and/or trim rings following manufactures
supplied instructions.
- Some wheels require that the trim ring, horn button and steering
wheel be assembled together first and then attach to steering hub after Step
4 above.
- Reconnect battery, test drive for alignment straight and level
