"What is Goodberry's?", you ask? Well, Goodberry's makes frozen custard,
which is like ice cream, more or less. Goodberry's has several
locations in and around Raleigh, North Carolina (and now Durham, and soon Wake Forest!), and one
more at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,
which is nowhere near Raleigh/Durham (go figure). There's also a rumor about an Australian Goodberry's which only does minis.
Goodberry's is very
popular. I have seen people waiting in line outdoors at Goodberry's in freezing
weather and thunderstorms. The frozen custard is "made fresh hourly", and there
are three flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and (you guessed it) the
Flavor-of-the-Day.
Rumor has it that you can get scoops, sundaes, and shakes, but most people I
know usually get
a "Carolina Concrete", which is one flavor of custard with your choice of stuff
mixed into it, like fruit,
chocolate chips, crushed Heath bars, nuts, etc. Among my favorites are butter
pecan with Heath bar and chocolate chips, butter pecan with Heath bar and waffle cone
bits, raspberry with raspberries and chocolate chips, strawberry mint, and
strawberry banana. Yum!
Of course, the key to planning your choices is to know the flavor of the day,
and that's why I have the Flavor-of-the-Day calendar on my website, so my
friends can consult it. I get the schedule from each month's Flavor-of-the-Day "bookmark"
- you can pick one up at any Goodberry's location...
Note for fanatics: the Goodberry's location at Myrtle Beach doesn't do a
flavor-of-the-day, and the locations at the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Complex
only have pre-mixed concretes.
