Interesting Record Companies...

There's a virtual plethora of music available today, but most of it you never hear about.  Either your local mega-store doesn't carry it or the local radio station doesn't play it.  Take a look around and you'll find something to make you go "Huh???".  A lot of the sites have audio clips or videos.

Alligator Records:  Got the blues?  Need the blues?  Here's the place to start looking.  RealAudio friendly.

Ark21:   Miles Copeland (of I.R.S. fame) runs this joint and it's not bad.   Lots of 80's inspired product and RealAudio clips.

Bar None Records:  Direct from Hoboken, your source for Country Dick Montana, Esquivel and other such artistry.

Birdcage Homepage: From the likes of Stan Ridgeway to Dread Zeppelin there's gold to be found here.

Bloodshot Records Homepage: The home of such luminaries as The Waco Brothers, Sally Timms, Old 97's and Jon Langford (more incestuous Mekons stuff).

Blue Note Records:  One of the most revered jazz labels out there.  Tons of audio clips.

Carri's Music:  A mail-order outfit run out of SoCal they specialize in music from the 30's to the 80's.  Looks like mostly vinyl to be found here.  A nice place for us hardcore collectors. 

Checkered Past Records:  With a folksy, "Welcome home stranger" they invite you in and treat you to The Old Joe Clarks, Tom House and Lonesome Bob.  Better company a person couldn't ask for.

Cherrydisc Records:  A home for artists like Boy Wonder, Chevy Heston and Grither.  Pretty diverse crowd.

City Hall Records: Ronnie Dawson and other rockabilly sounds.  Great guitars.

Concord Records:  From Concord California come the purveyors of jazz, jazz and more jazz.   Pinch me now, I must be dreaming.  Spend some time and get acquainted with friends old and new.

Criminal Records:  Featuring the Elementals and others.  RealAudio clips.

Dedicated Records:  All different sorts and some cool Shockwave feeds.

Del-Fi Records: Per their homepage, "The home of Ritchie Valens, The Bobby Fuller Four, And The Originator of The California Surf Sound!!!  Really a prime find.  Tons of classic sounds from surf to Zappa.

Dreamworks Records:  Soundtracks and a crowd diverse as the Rollins Band, Chris Rock and Propellerheads.  Kinda hard to pin this one down.

Loosegroove Records:  The Peoples Republic of Loosegroove presents artists of the State such as Critters Buggin', 14 Fathoms Deep and Devilhead. A nice collective.

LookOut Records:  With The Donnas, The Hi-Fives and Pansy Division you know you're in for a party.  RealAudio and video clips and full cuts.

Maggie's Music:  Music rooted in   ancient folk traditions.  This is Celtic music beautifully rendered.  The next time you're listening to some down-home hillbilly music, give a good listen to the fiddle and mandolin and you'll see where it all came from.  At least get the sampler and give it a listen. 

Materiali Sonori:  Contemporary and ambient music source.  Brian Eno, Harold Bud and more.  21 years in business and still going strong.

Merge Records:  Superchunk, Polvo, the Meanies and so much more.

MGR Records:  With friends like Happy the Clown and Jan Corliss you know you're in good company.  A smattering of pop, folk and hard rock mixed up for your listening pleasure.

Mint Records:  You can't go wrong with the likes of The Groovie Ghoulies and the Mr. T Experience now can you?

Monolyth Soundproof Records:  The home of The Amazing Royal Crowns, Stickfigure and The Derangers.  Boston based label.

Never Records:  Techno, DJ, House, Acid-Jazz...  If this is your predilection, then this is the place.  Lots of EPs and 12" vinyl too.

New Albion Records:  From their blurb, "streams of influence commingle the medieval with the modern, the primitive with the cosmopolitan, and the search through it all is for music that leads an aware listener into the living moment."  New Age claptrap, but some good artists.

Tone Casualties:  This is a label which specializes in dark, atmospheric, cinematic, ambient/industrial music with a surreal twist.

Tooth and Nail:  Punk and Hardcore rantings.  Just what the doctor ordered to relieve that work-a-day stress.

Triloka Records:  Music in a worldly vein.  An offshoot of Polygram.

TVTRecords:  The Connells, Brian Jonestown Massacre and so much more.  I love these guys.

Twin Tone Records:  Boss Hog, Lubricated Goat and the Mekons to give you a small taste of their range.  Go there now!

Geffen Records:  A huge conglomeration of artists.  From mainstream to downstream you'll find something you like.

Deutsche Grammophon:  Classical selection with great fidelity.

Atlantic Records:  Another company with a huge stable of artists.  Also featuring the "Digital Arena" for live feeds.

Mercury Records:  With a ton of artists you can spend a whole group of time here.

Virgin Records:   Lenny Kravitz, Dr. John and so on.
